Omar Sayfo

He obtained his first degree from the Department of Semitic Philology and Arabic at ELTE BTK, and his second from the Department of Political Science at ELTE TÁTK. He received his doctorate from Utrecht University in 2016. He wrote his dissertation on Arabic children's television, examining how the production of content for children is embedded in the media industries of Arab countries, what connections exist between program producers and distributors and various political and religious actors, and how various political and religious messages appear in content intended for children. In 2014, he was a visiting researcher at the University of Cambridge. He has published articles in several international academic journals, and his first academic monograph will be published by Edinburgh University Press in June 2021. His writings have appeared in numerous foreign publications, including The New York Times and Foreign Policy. Since 2019, he has been a researcher at the Avicenna Institute for Middle East Studies. As a member of the Migration Research Institute, he focuses on the integration of European Muslim diasporas and the dynamics of Middle Eastern societies.
